Poison is a South African investigative documentary which looks into the controversial world of cannabis. A national movement has emerged with the aim of understanding the ins and outs of this plant and it’s benefits. We set out, in this documentary, to explore cultural, recreational and medical uses in South Africa in order to reveal popular opinions and misconceptions. We uncover some reasons behind the criminalisation of cannabis. Poison looks into the intriguing perceptions of Rastafarians, traditional healers, growers and the man on the street. It is time that we gain clarity on this debatably miraculous flower. Does it have the potential to cure, heal and possibly save lives or are we under the impression that cannabis should remain classed with high schedule drugs like heroin?
